HORNBY - ROLLESTON: Hi, I'm a Kiwi, just returned from 16 years in China with my wife and six year old son. We are looking to rent an affordable property in New Zealand (under $400 in Christchurch, cheaper if elsewhere in the South Island) for about two years while we set up in NZ. I would go to a normal renting agency, but having been away fro so long I have no credit or references for NZ. While I prefer Christchurch, we would be happy with any property within the South Island that meets our requirements.
We are looking for a two bedroom plus place. We will be teaching/writing online, so we need space for a home office beyond the two bedrooms. Three bedrooms would be better, of course. We would like to be within 1km of a primary school and need to have access to fibre or VDSL internet for work. A supermarket within walking distance would help with me getting some exercise.
My wife and I are both in our 40s. We held professional jobs in China, and have reasonable savings here, I would be happy to pay a four weeks bond given our lack of NZ references.
